Adventure, does it stop when you grow up, settle down and have a family? I don’t think so. In fact there's no reason to really rein in your wanderlust. I see friends around me starting their families and I pounder the inevitable question – will having a family stop me from having an adventure?

There have been a number of stories in the press about parents taking their children out of school and travelling the world and I think that’s great. As a youngster my parents pulled me out of class, much distaste of my school. I went to places like Africa and I genially feel richer for it. It’s an education outside the confines of classroom. Learn by doing and seeing, something I firmly believe in. You hear stories of parents facing steep fines nowadays if they try to do the same and I find that sad. Of course there is a difference taking your kids out to lay by the pool for a week but what about those families who plan regular activities, climb mountains, go on safari's, visit ancient ruins or shop in old bazaars - surly they shouldn't be penalised (or even criminalised) for sharing these amazing experiences with their children. While I believe in a free economy surely the tour operators have a role to play in all this by curbing the sometimes massive cost in taking a family on holiday.

Back to the question at hand, do I think I carry on doinit when I'm older and settled? I'd say so,admittedly I say that now. And that's not to say I think I'll go gallivanting around the globe by myself. I think travel with loved ones further adds to the experience, you learn so much about each other and you’ll make wonderful memories which you'll share for years. I am pretty convinced then when it comes to taking future kids on my; or shall I say ‘our’ family adventures they will become richer, happier and more knowledgeable people.

So what's got me thinking about the future? Well, it's the announcement of the UK's first ever travel adventure event dedicated to families and I think this is a great concept.  So if you have the itch for adventure and want to share it with your family why not take a wander down to the event for some inspiration or even better, take the family, and let the kids decide where your next journey will take you.
